Bale Grist Mill
The Bale Grist Mill

The Bale Grist Mill was built in the 1840s. It has been restored, and is a state park in St. Helena, California. Dave Cresson, director of the Half Moon Bay, California History Association, chose the mill for the model for the Spanishtown diorama we are beuilding depicting 1861 Half Moon Bay, California. No photos or drawings exist of the mill that existed in 1861 on Arroyo de Leon Creek at the east end of Mill Street in Half Moon Bay, so Dave chose this mill, same vintage, close geographically, as the model for the diorama. Heinz Weber of Zetzwil, Switzerland, built the water wheel and building while staying as our guest in El Granada. We did the shingles by Builders In Scale, built the flume, forebay and sluice, and did the installation on the diorama.

We have developed drawings and instructions while building the model, and plan to release kits in HO, S & O scales in early 2012. Reservations accepted, no deposit required, orders will be filled in order of receipt, prices on the Wood Structure Kits page.

Andersen Model Kits has Gone Green!

95% of the electricity we use to make our products is generated on our roof. We are using Enphase Mini-Inverters, pictured on the left, to convert our DC electricity produced by our photovoltaic solar panels to AC. These inverters are mounted under each solar panel. The resulting efficiency of sending AC rather than DC down from the roof results in extra efficiency exceeding 15%!

We use 100% recycled packing materials. We save and organize our bubble wrap, paper packing, & plastic peanuts. The only new material going into our kit packing are the boxes, labels & packing tape. (We haven't managed to figure out how to re-use packing tape)

We compost all our vegetable & fruit scraps and use the mulch for our garden.

Our entire shop & packing station is in our garage, no fuel is used to commute.

New Simplified Prices: Wolf Creek Roundhouse Series

We have changed the price structure for our Wolf Creek Roundhouse Series. The new prices are simply per stall. The prices are basically the same as before, plus or minus a dollar or two here or there. Since we offer these kits in 70' or 114' stall lengths, and stalls from 2 to 35, pricing per stall simplifies the whole pricing structure.

Visit the Roundhouse & Machine Shop page for the new prices.
