Julie's Aspens & Evergreens

Julie’s aspens & evergreens can be used for different scales as in the chart below. We sell them in packs of six, twenty five or one hundred. Aspens are available in summer green or fall colors. Evergreens are available in, you guessed it! Green!!!

Bare Branch Winter Aspens in the Snow
Bare Branch Winter Aspens

Each Julie's Aspen and Evergreen is hand crafted so no two are alike.  With real wood trunks they have that shaggy woodsy look that will add realism to your layout. Same price schedule as the aspens, available only in green. (There is a reason they are called evergreen. In a bad moment, they have in the past referred to the aspens as "deciduous".) Available in Summer Green, Fall Colors, or Bare Branch Winter Aspens.

Tip: Rotate your aspen grove according to season: Model your ground with a mix of sand & dirt, and change your grove of aspens in minutes. Simply push the trunk into the sand/dirt mix. We used this technique in the photo above of the Bare Branch Winter Aspens.

The Aspen Tree is the World's Largest Living Thing!

Aspen trees grow in stands, as they are actually many branches emerging from one root system. The Aspen Forests are a very important part of the forest ecosystem. Aspens are generally the first trees to grow in a burned out area. Unlike conifers, Aspens grow from root stock, or "suckers", rather than seed. this gives them a head start over the other forest plants, as the Aspens Root Stock is rarely killed during a fire. The Aspen is a decidous tree, loosing it's leaves each fall. This helps make the soils of an Aspen forest very rich and fertile for other plants. The Aspen Tree leaves are filtered by sunlight to the forest floor, so a variety of other plants can grow as well (pines, spruce, small bushes, grasses and wild flowers). The Aspen provides valuable forage for the Elk and Deer herds of the forest, while the underlying plants attract and feed a variety of smaller forest denisons such as mice, rabbits, or voles. These, of course, attract bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions. You can begin to get a small picture of how without one of these, you lose all of these! One other interesting fact..... The largest living thing in the world is an Aspen Tree in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. It's an Aspen Tree, with a recorded 41,000 trees off of one root stock! Amazing! That whole forest is actually only one tree with many branches.
